Groom’s fashion
24-year-old designer Sarah Sheikh, owner of luxury bespoke menswear brand, SS Homme talks about getting the sartorial bends right on all the occasions of your wedding
Grooms should keep the overall look classic and elegant, with each look being distinct from the other for all the different ceremonies. Mehendi function is relatively a smaller function, where you can wear a stylized kurta/churidar and pair it with a linen-silk blend waistcoat. For a sangeet, something fun and comfortable which allows easy movements will work. An angrakha with Aligarh pants in a fun colour with a hint of velvet/a classic bandhgala is a good option. For the wedding, a little more traditional sherwani paired with churidar, Patiala or even a dhoti will work best.
The Head-to-toe Picture
Don’t wear over-the-top embroidery or loud colours. Keep the silhouette simple and experiment with accessories instead. Bold prints and colours in moderate amounts is good. If your outfit is traditional, pair it with leather sandals or mojris. Don’t overdo with jewellery, it’s meant for the bride!
Colours and colour combinations that work: Classic colours like red/bronze, turquoise/gold, violet/beige, and for the experimental ones even coral shades paired with pastels is a good option. Try and keep away from black and greys, they look best as a tuxedo or a three-piece suit.
How to minimize sweating under all those clothes: Make sure your outfits have a cotton blend lining.. Also try and wear a !00% cotton vest under your clothes.
Fashion tips across the ages
Do’s & Don’ts for grooms in their 20’s, 30s & 40s.
Too much bling or heavy embroidery is a big no no for any age group. Classic style with a contemporary look is suited for almost all ages. Dress according to your body type, wear colours that suit your complexion.
Cuts, colours, prints and styles that suit men: The outfit should fit you like its made for you. A size too big or too small ruins the entire look. Fabrics like brocades, jacquard, raw silk, linen in colours like blues, greens, beige, gold, pastels work well with Indian skin tone.
Classic pieces that work through the ages:A classic bandhgala never goes out of style. In a suiting fabric, linen, brocade or even raw silk will work, and the look sport will be timeless.
